- During Split 2, the final teams qualified for UNIVERSITY Esports Masters will be determined, which will represent Italy at the major Esports competition between universities in Europe.
UNIVERSITY Esports is back for its Split 2, which is open to university students from all over Italy and brings with it tournaments across video games such as League of Legends and VALORANT. Thus, players will have the opportunity to showcase their competitive skills against their peers, while also helping to build the grassroots gaming community – as participants play with their friends and make new ones.
This season of UNIVERSITY Esports follows high participation in the previous Split 1, where 23 teams and more than 100 players from 13 universities across Italy. The ‘Impact Unina’ team of Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II became League of Legends champions, and the squad of ‘Sapienza’ from Sapienza Università di Roma emerged victorious in VALORANT.
During Split 2, the final teams qualified to represent Italy in UNIVERSITY Esports Masters (UE Masters) will be determined. In 2024, over 200 players from 17 countries were part of the major esports competition between universities across Europe, crowning Italian winners in two games: Rocket League (Pesto University, from the University of Genoa), and Clash Royale (Wyze, student at the University of Salerno).
2nd Split Tournament schedule
Signups are open for the UNIVERSITY Esports Split 2. The VALORANT and League of Legends tournaments will be divided into three Qualifiers, Playoff, and Grand Final. Qualifier 1 was held last weekend, but students can register now for the next games and aspire to advance in the competition. Winning teams will be awarded with a shared €1,000 prize pool. The upcoming key dates are as follows:

- Qualifier 3: 15th March
- Playoff: 29th March
- Grand Final: 5th April
League of Legends

Beyond competition
UNIVERSITY Esports, a grassroots esports organiser in Italy operated by GGTech Entertainment and ProGaming Italia, is about much more than just online competition, and also plays a big role in fostering communities and providing career opportunities and education. During the 2024/25 season, the initiative is supported by Samsung Electronics Italia and Riot Games.
UNIVERSITY Tour, an in-person series of events aimed at raising awareness of the esports community and building real-life connections between players, returned during the Split 1 of UNIVERSITY Esports. University of Insubria, in Varese hosted these face-to-face activities, with hundreds of students engaged about the benefits of participating in the esports community both professionally and to have fun.
