UNIVERSITY Esports Masters, the European esports competition for university students, kicks off its team-based game tournaments –League of Legends, VALORANT, and Rocket League – with the participation of French teams.
Representatives from 17 European countries will vie for the title of European University Champion, competing for a share of the €14,000 prize pool.
UE Masters serves as the culmination of the UNIVERSITY Esports season, a project spanning 26 countries worldwide with over 100,000 student participants. In France, the competition is known as La Grosse Ligue, bringing together over 1,800 students from 320 universities across the country.
French representatives
In League of Legends, France will be represented by two teams. ‘UDL Esport’, composed of students from the University of Lyon, winners of the last edition of UNIVERSITY Esports France, will be joined by ‘Jaguars dans Bouée’, representing Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinci, four-time national champions. The LoL competition’s first stage will take place on April 20th and 21st.
In VALORANT, France will also field two teams vying for the European Champions trophy. ‘LDV Esport’, also representing Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinci, and ‘SU Esport A’, composed of students from the University of La Sorbonne in Paris, will represent France in Riot Games‘ shooter. The VALORANT competition begins on April 27th and 28th.
The roster is completed by ‘LDV Reborn’, also from Pôle Léonard De Vinci, and “4Esport” from EFREI Paris, who will compete in the Rocket League tournament during the first two weekends of May.
More Than Just an Esports Competition
The primary objectives of UEMasters are to cultivate a sense of community among players across Europe, provide them with the opportunity to compete in high-quality international tournaments, and offer pathways for the next generation to advance esports further.
As such, both the League of Legends and VALORANT finals will take place in person at a live event, with dates and locations to be announced. This allows players to experience traveling abroad to represent their country and compete on a stage with cheering spectators.
In addition to supporting players aiming for a career in esports, the event provides many students with paid organizational and broadcasting roles, both on-camera and behind the scenes. This offers the next generation of grassroots talent, beyond just players, valuable opportunities to gain their first professional experience in the burgeoning esports industry.
During this season, UNIVERSITY Esports Masters will be supported by some of the most important publishers in the market, such as Riot Games.
All the latest updates from the competition can be followed through its social media channels, and the broadcast will take place on its official Twitch channel.
