12th March 2025.- A team of students from the University of Pisa has made history in the gaming competitive scene. ‘Unipizza’—this is the name of the squad— will represent Italy in the upcoming 2025 edition of UNIVERSITY Esports Masters (UE Masters), the major esports tournament between universities from all over Europe.
After participating in the Grand Finals of the Split 1 of UNIVERSITY Esports Italy and getting the access to the continental phase, Tuscan players are ready to get the victory and be crowned as the new European Champions in VALORANT. On their way to glory, this group of friends from Pisa, who are currently studying university degrees such as Computer Science, Engineering courses and Economics, will have to face and overcome their rivals from over 15 countries across Europe.
An esports team based on friendship
‘UniPizza’ is integrated by seven students of the University of Pisa. This team has been participating in UNIVERSITY Esports Italy for three years and during this time has stood out for improving its results every season.
The squad is led by ‘kurius’—his real name is Alessandro Bevilacqua—, player and team manager of ‘UniPizza’. He is one of the most featuring figures within the university esports landscape in Italy, having participated in several gaming events in recent years. The rest of the group is composed by Alessio Vito D’Angelo ‘Halex’, Niccolò Candelise ‘swayy’, Marco Parisi ‘gemelliThe‘, Michele Meazzini ‘spacee’, Nicolò Tucceri ‘Madar’, and Gabriele Cisternino ‘nervzky’.
Beyond the competitive scene, UniPizza is characterized by their friendly relationship with each other. Their shared passion for esports has created a real bond outside of video games as well: players usually meet for dinner and other leisure activities. This team is a demonstration of the unifying power of gaming to build healthy, positive communities between university students.
